In connection with the official opening of the new building in Møllendalsveien 61, Faculty of Art, Music and Design (KMD) published a book that highlights the development, challenges and distinctive character of art and design education in Bergen. The book contains over 50 contributions written and produced specifically for this occasion; essays, visual contributions and presentations from both former students and the research fields of the different disciplines.

The book attempts to highlight different perspectives on Bergen Academy of Art and Design and its predecessors. In recent times, there is Bergen Kunsthåndverksskole, Statens høgskole for kunsthåndverk og design, as well as Vestlandets Kunstakademi. However, art education in Bergen has its roots all the way back to 1772 when Det Harmoniske Akademis tegneskole was established. The contribution of the book is a picture of how art education has changed and how KMD has become the institution that it is today.
